Scali Extends Support for the Sun Solaris 10 Operating System on Sun Fire X64 Servers

Combination of Solaris 10 on x64 and Scali MPI Connect Creates Industry Leading Performance Solution for Clustered Computing Environments

Marlborough, Massachusetts – June 27, 2006 -- Scali today announced that Scali MPI Connect™ now supports the Solaris TM 10 Operating System (OS) on Sun FireTM x64 (x86, 64-bit) servers. Organizations running Solaris 10 OS-based clusters can now use Scali MPI Connect to maximize effectiveness and performance. In addition to multi-platform support for leading interconnects such as GbE and Myrinet, Scali MPI Connect is the only professionally developed message passing interface available for InfiniBand running with Solaris 10 on the Sun Fire x64 platform.

Scali MPI Connect increases the efficiency of cluster interconnects, greatly improving communication between compute nodes and maximizing the cluster’s overall performance. As a result of Scali’s heterogeneous approach, organizations using any of the leading interconnect technologies can now take advantage of the benefits offered by Scali MPI Connect on both Linux and the Solaris 10 OS environments. Scali’s MPI will be integrated with the SunTM N1 Grid Engine, which provides optimized job scheduling and workload management for High Performance Computing grids. Scali Manage will be made available on the Solaris 10 OS in a future release.

“We have been using Scali MPI Connect in our benchmarking centers over the past year and have been impressed with the significant performance improvements and platform independence that is unique to Scali’s MPI. Specifically, with Scali MPI Connect, we have been able to reduce the number of MPI’s we use and increase the number of benchmarks we run,” said Marc Hamilton, director of technology for Sun's Global Education and Research Group. “Scali is a leader in providing the software and services companies need to run and manage their clustered environments. We are pleased to be cooperating with Scali in the high performance computing market.”

"We are very pleased to see that Scali MPI Connect has been certified for Solaris 10 on the x86_64 architecture," said Dennis Nagy, Vice President, Marketing and Business Development at CD-adapco. "We are always looking for ways to work with our partners and explore new solutions that provide real benefits to our customers. The certification of Scali's MPI on Solaris 10 on Opteron provides a very good MPI layer for STAR-CD to maintain its leading advantage in delivering robustness, performance and scalability."

“Our strategy is to support the leading platforms that power clustering and high performance computing environments. Sun delivers proven high performance solutions that are easy to deploy, eco-friendly and scalable. With a choice of hardware platforms as well as the Solaris 10 and Linux operating systems, Sun has what it takes for customers to solve the toughest problems,” said Bjorn Skare, President and CEO of Scali. “Integrating the Solaris 10 OS and Scali MPI Connect is a natural fit in the quest for enhancing performance.”
